Dildaar dilli, Mastano ki Dilli aur Dilli se hai - and many more things are said about Delhi. But the real heart of Delhi lies in its nurturing of talent and in the streets where the people realize their dreams.

Dildaar dilli, Mastano ki Dilli aur Dilli se hai - and many more things are said about Delhi. But the real heart of Delhi lies in its nurturing of talent and in the streets where the people realize their dreams.

From these very streets, Rawal and Bharg started partnering in 2019 when the singer-songwriter and rapper (Rawal) was introduced to the producer Bharg Kale.

And just like that, they released their debut album in 2021, Sab Chahiye, and kyu nai chahiye hoga when you have the talent and the drive to get it?

They both have been working in the underground hip hop community in India, way before hip hop introduced itself as a mainstream genre. Both rappers started off in English and upon suggestion from Calm (from Seedhe Maut) Rawal decided to switch to Hindi.

In the typical Indian spirit, Bharg had no professional training in music, he learnt all his skills online from YouTube and other media platforms. Like the average Indian college kid, Bharg joined the western music society in his college and learnt a lot from his peers there.

They met each other at an Event and started sharing music, which led to them collaborating on their first song, which then snowballed into them becoming a unit.

They got big names like Raga, Ikka and Sez on the Beat, merely by getting them to listen to their music on various occasions.

On one such occasion, they had an entire song ready, except for one verse and were working hard to get on it and call it serendipity or call it fate, Ikka Singh heard them and worked on Akkad Bakkad Bambey Bo with them.

Rawal confesses that he was never serious about the culture before their first album, and reminisces about the times before the movie Gully Boy was released when the underground hip-hop scene had not been cultivated.

He got serious about his musical career once he met Bharg and released Jungli Kutte.

They take pride in creating music that makes people unwind as opposed to the big energy that surrounds hip hop.

They’ve released a song where Rawal sampled the sounds from his dog’s (Larry) dog toy, featured Ikka Singh on it and claimed that the beat was “0 brain cell” where the listener did not have to use any mental capacity to enjoy it.

Having collaborated with almost all the big names in the Delhi circuit like Sez on the Beat and Calm (Seedhe Maut) is not their only claim to fame, they also opened for DIVINE on 28th May 2022.

Hip-hop in India has travelled miles to get where it is, both physically and metaphorically, and if there's anything that speaks volumes it is the journey that the art form has set off on.
